Fused Glass Weave 101 | Sat. April 5

67 US dollars
R Coffee Corner, 3848 East Harbor Light Landing Dr., Port Clinton, Oh

Class Description

What a great piece to start a new season of fusing with Dody Bowman! The glass weave! Weaves can be made in any size or shape using any color of glass. Weaves also may be ‘neat’ or very abstract! In this class we will start with the basics. The shape will be rectangle (approximately 6 x 8"). You may choose to have your finished piece flat backed or slumped to a slight curve, as shown in the description. There will be several colors of transparent or opaque 3mm art glass strips available to choose your base and weave colors. Also available will be several colors of glass rod ‘stringer’, (similar to angel hair pasta) and glass ‘noodles’. (similar to fettuccine pasta) Weaves are often used as wall art, framed, or display art. These are fun just to have friends try to figure out how you did it! Find out and join me! Class is limited to 9 students! Pick up time will be determined in class. If you requested I offer this class again, or are seeing it here for the first time, this is it! About your instructor: Dody Bowman was first introduced to warm glass while she was teaching ceramics at the Kapalua Art School, Kapalua, Maui. She loved what you can do with glass and made her living the next 18 years on Maui selling her beautiful glass work in galleries, art fairs and craft events. To continue to learn and grow, she’s taken glass fusing classes with legendary glass artist, Patty Gray, and Master Class fusing with Tonya Veit, AAE Glass, whose work she admires. Dody has been actively firing glass for 25 years. Dody’s teaching philosophy: I want you to experiment and do your own thing art wise, while using my knowledge and experience to guide you on making a piece that will last forever. I want to help you learn the basics of glass, not only to have fun, but to create an amazing piece of your own. Through experimenting with combining colors and thicknesses of glass, I’ll help you understand what happens in the kiln and why.
