Zach VanHorn

Your Instructor: Graduating from The Ohio State University in 2013 and receiving his MFA from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2018, Zach has honed his skills as a painter for over 10 years.  His work has been exhibited locally as well as in Philadelphia and New York City.  Zach has experience working with numerous paint mediums including oil, acrylic, latex, watercolor and gouache. 

Zach has received of the following awards and recognition for his work: The Ohio Arts Council Purchase Award from the Ohio State Fair(2016), The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 117th Annual Student Exhibition Artcritical Award (2018), The Ohio Arts Council Award, Ohio State Fair (2022) and the Ohio Arts Council 2023 Individual Excellence Award. 

Zach’s Teaching Philosophy: I believe that my role as a teacher is to provide structure for the student to work within but allow them the freedom to move in that structure in whatever way they interpret the assignment/project. Eventually it's my duty to show students how to create their own structure and discover their own creative style. To achieve this I attempt to instill confidence in my students about their own work by helping them appreciate and understand its value.
